The Anti-habit Tracker
Make the bad habit cost you.
Name the one thing you want to stop: the phone in bed, the morning doomscroll, the weekday takeout. Put a small stake on staying clean. Hold the line and you pay nothing. Slip, and the stake is charged.
Free for up to 3 staked goals. For adults (18+, or the age of majority where you live). Available worldwide; how stakes are paid depends on your country: see your country.

How it works
Three steps, one habit at a time
-
Name what you are stopping
One habit, one line: no cigarettes, no scrolling before noon. Choose how many clean days to aim for and the stake, from $1. We recommend starting with one day away from your habit and a $1 stake, then gradually lengthening the run when you succeed and raising the stake when you slip. The app proposes exactly that after each run.
-
Keep the run clean
If you slip, say so with one tap. When a run ends, clean or not, you choose: go again, pause, or archive. Succeed, and the app proposes the next run one day longer at the same stake: one clean day at $1 becomes two days at $1, then three. Slip, and it proposes the same length with the stake $1 higher. You can always change the length.
-
Slipping costs the stake
A slip you report waits 24 hours: you get an email with a link to cancel it if it was a mistake; doing nothing confirms it and the stake is charged. When a run's deadline passes, you have 24 hours to say whether you stayed clean; no answer counts as a slip and the stake is charged then. Then you choose: go again (the same length, $1 higher), pause, or archive.
Habits you could stop with Samvara
- No phone in bed after 10 pm
- No doomscrolling before noon
- No takeout on weekdays
- No cigarettes
- No porn
- No alcohol
Building a habit instead, like a daily run or 20 pages a night? It works the same way: a skipped day counts as a slip.
Features
Firm enough to work. Fair when life happens.
-
Small stakes you choose
You set the amount for each habit. Enough to make you pause before you slip, not enough to hurt.
-
24 hours to cancel a slip
A slip you report waits 24 hours. You get an email with a link to cancel it if it was a mistake; doing nothing confirms it and the stake is charged.
-
Pause
Traveling or ill? When a run ends, you can pause the goal for as long as you like, up to 90 days. It restarts on its own, and we remind you the day before. Nothing is charged while it is paused.
-
Weekly charge cap
A weekly charge cap, $100 by default, that you can change any time. If a week would go over it, the rest waits and is charged the following week, once the cap has room again.
-
Coach sharing Pro
Share a goal with a friend or coach who can confirm you stayed clean, excuse a slip, or take over the decision before any charge.
-
Trends Pro
For each habit you count, see your average, longest and shortest clean runs, and every run on one chart so you can see them change over weeks and months. In the web app.
-
Custom metrics Pro
Count what matters to you: cigarettes, hours of screen time, takeout orders.
-
No-excuses mode
Optional, per goal. If you think a charge wasn't fair, it is refunded only for a rare emergency, like a hospital stay or a death in the family. A person still reviews every request.

Missed stakes go to Samvara. Here is how we keep it fair.
When you miss, the stake is Samvara's revenue. It does not go to charity or to other users. Because we earn when you miss, we have built in limits that work in your favor.
- You choose the stake. It starts at the amount you pick, from $1. If you go again after a slip, the next run is $1 higher, and the app always shows what is at stake.
- A slip you report waits 24 hours. You get an email first, and one tap on its link tells us it was a mistake and cancels it. Doing nothing confirms it and the stake is charged.
- A passed deadline gives you 24 hours.Say whether you stayed clean. No answer counts as a slip, and the stake is charged then.
- Think a charge wasn't fair?Tell us from the charge itself (“This charge was a mistake” in the app) and a person will review it. Mistaken charges are refunded; nothing is declined automatically, even in no-excuses mode.
- A weekly charge cap.$100 a week by default, and you can change it any time. Anything over it waits for the next week instead of being charged.
- You can leave any time.Export your data and close your account from Settings, on the web or in the app. If a goal is mid-run, you finish it or end it first. Your other goals are archived when you close. Changed your mind? Sign back in within 7 days and your account is restored; you can then unarchive your goals.
FAQ
Questions
Is the money real?
Yes. A stake is a real charge to your card if you miss, not a pledge or points. That is what makes it work.
What if I slip for a good reason?
A slip you report waits 24 hours, and you get an email with a link to cancel it if it was a mistake; doing nothing confirms it and the stake is charged. If a charge already went through by mistake, use “This charge was a mistake” in the app and a person reviews it. If you know in advance that a stretch will be hard, you can pause between runs, when one ends.
What happens when a run ends?
When a run ends, clean or not, you choose: go again (one day longer at the same stake after a clean run; the same length at $1 more after a slip), pause for as long as you like up to 90 days (it restarts on its own, and we remind you the day before), or archive. You can't pause in the middle of a run; you can finish it or end it, which charges the current stake.
Where does the money from a slip go?
To Samvara. It is part of how the app is paid for, alongside Pro subscriptions. We say so up front, and the weekly cap and the 24 hours to cancel a slip are there because of it.
What is the most I can be charged?
There is a weekly charge cap, $100 by default, across all your goals. You can change it at any time in Settings, up or down, and it takes effect immediately. If a charge would take you past it, only the part that fits is charged now; the rest waits and is charged the following week, oldest first, once the cap has room again. Nothing is dropped.
Do I need a card to sign up?
No. You sign up with your email and a 6-digit code. You add a card in Settings before your first stake; it is stored with Stripe and only charged if you miss. The 14-day Pro trial needs no card either.
Can I use it to build a habit instead?
Yes. Set the goal as something you do every day, like a run or 20 pages. A day you skip counts as a slip. Samvara is built around stopping things, but the rules are the same either way.
Who can use Samvara?
Adults 18 and over (or the age of majority where you live). We ask for your date of birth once to check your age and do not store it. Samvara is available worldwide; how stakes are paid depends on your country: see your country.
What does the name mean?
Saṃvara is a Pali and Sanskrit word for restraint: not following an impulse the moment it arises. Read about the name.
How do I cancel Pro?
Where you bought it. A plan bought in the app is cancelled in the App Store or Google Play; a plan bought on the web (United States only) is cancelled from the Pro page. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
